Two felony warrants and information about the location of the man for whom they were issued led police to burst into an apartment on Southeast Beech Street on Dec. 31, according to records.
Mark Anthony Lebar, 27, was arrested on warrants for shooting into an inhabited dwelling and corporal injury of a spouse. The combined bonds for those two charges equal more than $1 million.
The two warrants were issued from Fresno, Calif.
Lake City Police Sgt. John Blanchard received information that Lebar was at an apartment in the 200 blook of Southeast Beech Street. He contacted the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force and the Special Crimes Unit, giving officers the suspect’s picture because of Lebar’s alleged history of having weapons and narcotics, LCPD Det. Robert Milligan noted in an arrest affidavit.
A detective with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and LCPD Officer Mitchell Cline saw Lebar sitting on the steps of the apartment as they were conducting surveillance of the residence, Milligan said.
Officers attempted to make contact with the subject, but he went into the apartment. Surveillance was maintained on the apartment.
An hour later, LCPD Det. Larry Shallar and LCPD Officer Larry Butler saw Lebar peep out of the front door of the apartment when he looked at them in an unmarked vehicle. LCPD Officer Paul Kash knocked on the door and announced “Police,” the report said.
Shallar also knocked several times and made the same announcement.
“Due to Mr. Lebar having a felony warrant, and (that) we received information the subject was possibly armed,” Milligan noted, “we made forced entry into the residence.”
Steven McGee was found lying on the couch in the living room.
With a potential of weapons being in the apartment, officers searched McGee and found a bottle with 18 pills inside.
Lebar was found in a bedroom. In addition to the two felony warrants, Lebar was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to records.
McGee was arrested for possession of prescription drugs without having a prescription for them, according to records.
