LIVE OAK — Suwannee was the top dog at its own invitational.

The Bulldogs won the traditional and Olympic events at the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, tallying 62 points in traditional and 67 in Olympic to finish ahead of runner-up Leesburg’s final totals of 41 and 46. Leading the way for Suwannee were Marquavious Owens, Sam Wainwright and Will Wainwright, who won titles in both events.

Owens totaled 570 pounds to win traditional in the 154 class by 80 pounds, and he finished with a 495 total to take first in Olympic by 10 pounds.

Sam Wainwright won traditional in the 199 class with a 700 total and came in first in Olympic with a 635 tally. His 700 total gave him the traditional crown by 50 pounds, while his tally in Olympic put him 95 pounds ahead of the runner-up.

Will Wainwright had a meet-best 755 total in traditional, winning the event by a whopping 150 pounds. His Olympic total was 615, also plenty ahead of the runner-up by 75 pounds.

Also winning titles for the Bulldogs were Demontay Brown in the 139 class in traditional, lifting a 365 total, and Chris Gonzalez, who totaled 365 to win the Olympic event in the 119 class. Gonzalez finished just ahead of teammate Randy Garcia, who totaled 350 pounds, while Gonzalez placed second in traditional with a 395 total and Garcia took fourth with a 375 total.

Also scoring points for Suwannee in traditional were Will Garcia at 129 class (second, 445), Mark Garcia at 129 (fifth, 380), Isiah Love at 169 (third, 505), Kodi Lang at 183 (fifth, 510), JD Cherry at 199 (sixth, 535), Reese Bronson (fourth, 545), Alex Mabey at 238 (third, 580), Will Brown at unlimited (fourth, 575) and Justice Leggett at unlimited (fifth, 560).

Also earning points for SHS in Olympic were Will Garcia (second, 380), Mark Garcia (fifth, 355), Brown (third, 385), Love (fourth, 450), Lang (fourth, 470), Cherry (fifth, 505), Davion Ramirez at 219 (fourth, 445), Mabey (second, 515), Leggett (third, 495) and Brown (fourth, 475).

Fort White also competed at the meet but only had one lifter score points. That was James Dimauro, who was runner-up in both traditional (615 total) and Olympic (505 total) to help the Indians place 10th as a team with five points in both events.

BASEBALL

— Columbia 6, Flagler Palm Coast 4: Max Schuler went 2 for 4 with two RBIs while Bynton Edge, Trayce McKenzie and Cade Frier each added an RBI to help the Tigers (4-6) bounce back with a road win over the Bulldogs (4-4). Grant Bowers pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out six.

— Wakulla 7, Suwannee 0: The Bulldogs (4-2-1) were held to just one hit as they fell to the War Eagles (4-2-1) on the road in District 2-4A action. Logan Brooks allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks in three innings, while PJ Davis gave up two runs — one earned — on two hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings before Koy Frier surrendered four unearned runs on a hit and three walks in just 1/3 of an inning.

— Branford 6, Hamilton County 1: Andres Maysonet and Austin Humphries each recorded two RBIs while Kyler Williamson and Wyatt Derringer each drove in one run to lead the Buccaneers (5-5) past the Trojans (0-7) on the road in District 6-1A action. Gavin Barnes and Humphries combined to throw a one-hitter, with Barnes allowing the lone hit in five innings where he struck out 10 and walked four before Humphries struck out four over the final two frames.

SOFTBALL

— Fort White 2, Ridgeview 0: Carly Caines delivered a 2-RBI single in the second inning while Kadence Compton tossed a 3-hitter to help the Indians (7-1) shut out the Panthers (2-5) on Day 2 of the Tournament of Champions hosted by Oakleaf. Compton finished with 10 strikeouts and only walked one batter.
